Michael Zink is currently Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He works in the fields of sense-and-response sensor networks, distribution of high-bandwidth, high-volume data, and the design and analysis of long-distance wireless networks and Systems Engineering. Further research interests are in wide-area multimedia distribution for wired and wireless environments and Future Internet Architectures
Thomas Zinner is heading the research group "Next Generation Networks" at the Chair of Communication Networks in Würzburg. His main research interests cover the performance assessment of novel networking technologies, in particular software ‐ defined networking and network function virtualization, as well as network ‐ application interaction mechanisms.
Short Description of the area
The
networking community is facing a rapid evolution and diversification of
networks. Concepts like Information Centric Networking and the emergence of
technologies like Software Defined Networking (SDN) or Network Function
Virtualization (NFV) enable a much more flexible operation of networks and the
provided resources. Network and service architectures have to utilize this this
flexibility in a meaningful and efficient way. This requires the development of
new tools for understanding and modelling traffic and associated functions
taking into account reliability, orchestration capabilities, function and
content placement, and performance.
The area
“Next Generation and Future Internet Architectures” aims at addressing these
and similar questions.
