The ITC 29 Workshop on “Modelling Communication Networks” will be held in Genoa, Italy in conjunction with ITC 29, which is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE ComSoc) and and in-cooperation with ACM SIGCOMM. The workshop is supported by the University of Würzburg, University of Duisburg-Essen, University of Cantabria, and Hamburg University of Technology. ITC is an outstanding conference, focussing on scientific approaches, modelling and evaluation of teletraffic topics, this year on the following five areas.
- Networking, Cloud/Fog/Ubiquitous Computing, and Applications
- Future Internet Architectures, like Software Defined Networking
- Wireless Networks and Applications including 5G and Internet of Things
- Measurements and Big Data Analytics
- Performance Evaluation, Control, and Optimization
Current research aspects are reflected in the technical program of the PhD workshop, which consists of six full paper presentations, which in fact provide significant results to the ITC community. Hence, they will be presented in the workshop forum as a full 20 minute presentation to the audience, leaving sufficient time for discussion. Furthermore, a dedicated poster session for PhD workshop papers will take place during the main conference. A 1-2 min teaser presentation during the main conference will draw attention to the poster presentation. This will allow the PhD students to connect with the conference participants.
We are happy to announce that the tutorial “A practical view of modeling and quantification of network survivability” is integrated into the workshop program. This will give the PhD students an excellent overview on the topic which is presented by outstanding experts in that area, Prof. Poul E. Heegaard, (NTNU, Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Prof. Kishor S. Trivedi (Duke University, US). The program is completed by a keynote talk from Susanne Greiner (Würth Phoenix S.r.l., Bolzano, Italy) on “Trends in (Network) Performance Monitoring - an Industry Perspective”.

Presenters of accepted ITC 29 PhD workshop papers will have to prepare
- a 1-2 min teaser presentation during the main conference on Wednesday will draw attention to your poster presentation. In the madness session, each author gives a very short (1-2min) flash presentation that highlights what their poster is about and why it will be great to come and look at it.
- a poster to be hang on Wednesday morning and to be presented during the poster session on Wednesday. Please find below some information and tips.
- Poster should be in the “portrait” format A0.
- Push tacks or velcro adhesive will be provided by ITC 29 to mount your poster.
- Fonts: Use a sans serif font such as Arial or Helvetica in a minimum size of 24 pt.
- Text size: Text, figures and photographs should be readable from a distance of 1 m.
- Content: Use short phrases and “bulleted” text throughout the poster; avoid long narrative paragraphs.
- Handouts and demos: Authors are encouraged to provide handouts, e.g., preprints, extended abstracts, copies of poster panels, etc. You may also bring additional battery-operated audio or visual aids to enhance your presentation.
- a 20 minute presentation. Please note that the oral presentation will be followed by 10 minutes questions & answers. Please prepare your talk such that you will end on time within 20min. Session chairs will be advised to keep a strict timing.
