Erlang's Centennial

In 1909, the Danish Mathematician Agner Krarup Erlang (1978-1929) published his famous article, “The Theory of Probabilities and Telephone Conversations”. This article, considered to be the first publication on queuing theory, was doubtlessly one of the cornerstones in the creation of the International Teletraffic Congress (ITC).

As worldwide recognition of his seminal work, the "Erlang" became the accepted unit of telecommunication traffic measurement, and it has been used ever since in the design of telecommunications networks.

To celebrate the centennial of queuing theory, a conference "100 years of queueing - The Erlang Centennial" will be organized on April 1-3, 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the auspices of ITC.
